Friday Five: Five Things That Should Give you Guild Rep in Cataclysm

The recent information Blizzard released to all of us who are eagerly awaiting the Cataclysm expansion mentioned that we’ll all need to build reputation with our guild to take advantage of guild rewards, with Exalted reputation needed with your guild for some items, on each character who wants to take advantage of said guild perks. Given this little slice of information, I started wondering just what will end up granting you faction with your guild. Which then led me to what *should* grant you faction with your guild.

Here is my only slightly-tongue in cheek list:

  1. Warlocks summoning the tardy to raids at raid start time. Triple bonus rep for putting down more than one demon tv in 5 minutes to summon those who didn’t notice the five summonses you already sent them.
  2. Crafting rep-based gear for your guildies. After all, it takes you time to grind out the rep to be able to make the gear, so that should count a a guild contribution, shouldn’t it?
  3. Standing around a capital city, waiting 15 minutes to do an enchant for your guildies as they run to and fro trying to piece together the materials. 10 rep per 15 minutes of waiting on guildies time seems fair, yes?
  4. Putting out food for your group to enjoy and get that well fed buff. After all, you put in the time fishing and cooking up that feast, so seems fair you get a small perk for that.
  5. Answering the question “have the invites gone out yet?” — that alone should be 10 points per answer, which would net upwards of 200 faction points per night, especially on weekly quest night. ;p

What would you add to this list? What do you think should give *you* guild rep? Take part in the August 2-7 Blog Azeroth Shared topic!

  1. The going joke with my guild is that “bloodlust isn’t free”, so any time a shaman hits that magical button, it is a form of guild rep – our guild leader’s a shaman. 😉
I honestly hope the guild bank contributions don’t entail a huge part of the rep grind. That could get pretty expensive pretty fast, and our bank already has far more gold and consumables/epics than it needs to support a guild of our size.
I know that contributions in raids will be a part of guild rep as well, which is a little frustrating. How will they handle those who really have no interest in completing raids with their alts? PvP alts, for instance – or alts that there isn’t any interest or capacity to play at a raiding level. Maybe then they just don’t deserve the buffs or benefits.

  2. Seconding this! I picked Nibelung up for 3DKP because PvP counts as an offspec! The angel keeps people from drinking in Arena. Now it’s Bankalung. Usually it’s Shardalung. Maybe when we get the heroic one to start dropping, maybe…but honestly the best combo in ICC right now is Frozen Bonespike/Shadow Silk Spindle. Most spellpower, haste, and crit overall, and what caster doesn’t love those?

  3. Hehe, I would have so much guild rep based off of your list. Would locks get extra rep for summoning guildies mid-raid (like those that hearth to go grab stuff during breaktime, etc.)? Especially since a lot of times it means we can’t go afk because we’re waiting for their whisper…>.>

  4. Personally I want guild rep for everytime I save our hunter’s life by taunting the mobs he pulled by mistake (and forgot to feign death). I still haven’t quite figured out how a hunter can feign death, but judging by some of the recent things I’ve seen it seems possible! 😛
Guild rep for giving slackers flasks on progression raids because they “didn’t have time” to get them themselves.
Ooh and can we haz guild rep for owning every lovely dress in the game – making the guild prettier overall? 😉

  5. Through a small miracle of EPGP (i.e. the other caster above me spent some), I picked up the spindle last night to go with my bonespike. Very happy about that.

  6. I am guessing Blizz will have a mix of things that earn guild rep, including doing dailies. But it would be nice if they were soliciting some fun/commonly underappreciated items for the list of what gains you the rep. And I second the idea that guild bans are overflowing with things no one wants (TM)

  7. Hehe I think dress up clothes should definitely count for something. And not just because I have bags and bags of them.
And concur that handing out flasks to raiders who didn’t bring them should be a big rep # for sure. I am always amazed at how many peeps show up for 25man progression bosses without even 1 flask in hand. I blame the buff for making people extra lazy about it.

  8. I love the have invites gone out yet, last night as we were doing invites, and spamming guild chat for people to whisper the raid leaders, someone asks, are raid invites going out, and I threw my hands up and thought of this post

  9. We used to run 3 or more weekly raid groups as everyone cycled through their alts…and every go round…there were people asking “Have the invites gone out yet?” when they’d already rec’d an ORA raid invite, or we’d said in raid whom to whisper for an invite. Every. Single. Week. lol

  10. Thanks for the great topic! It would be great if us locks got rep for summoning and such. We love to feel useful…. when we’re not being evil.:)
